The virtues of the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah
« on: December 11, 2007, 06:32:31 AM »
The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:
典here are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allaah than these ten days.
They said: 哲ot even jihad for the sake of Allaah?
He said: 哲ot even jihad for the sake of Allaah, unless a man goes out himself for jihad
taking his wealth with him  and does not come back with anything.
Narrated by al-Bukhaari

So the Muslim should start these days with sincere repentance to Allaah, then he should do a lot of righteous deeds in general, then he should pay attention to doing the following deeds:

1 Fasting

It is Sunnah for the Muslim to fast on the first nine days of Dhu値-Hijjah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) encouraged us to do righteous deeds in the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah, and fasting is one of the best of deeds, which Allaah has chosen for Himself as it says in the hadeeth qudsi: 鄭llaah says: 羨ll the deeds of the son of Adam are for him, except fasting, which is for Me and I shall reward for it. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1805.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu値-Hijjah. It was narrated from Hunaydah ibn Khaalid from his wife, that one of the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to fast on the first nine days of Dhu値-Hijjah and the day of 羨shoora, and three days each month, the first Monday of the month and two Thursdays. Narrated by al-Nasaa段, 4/205 and by Abu Dawood; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood, 2/462.

2 Reciting tahmeed, tahleel and takbeer a great deal

It is Sunnah to recite:
takbeer (saying Allaahu akbar (Allaah is most great)),
tahmeed (saying al-hamdu Lillah (praise be to Allaah)),
tahleel (saying Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah (There is no god but Allaah)) and tasbeeh (saying Subhaan-Allaah (Glory be to Allaah)),

during the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah, saying these words out loud in the mosques, homes, streets and every place in which it is permissible to remember Allaah, to perform this act of worship openly and proclaim the greatness of Allaah.

Men should recite out loud and women should recite quietly.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

典hat they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the Name of Allaah on appointed days, over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice)

[al-Hajj 22:28]

The majority are of the view that the 殿ppointed days are the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah, because it was narrated from Ibn 羨bbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the appointed days are the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah.

It was narrated from 羨bd-Allaah ibn 繕mar (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 典here are no days that are greater before Allaah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed during them. Narrated by Ahmad, 7/224; its isnaad was classed as saheeh by Ahmad Shaakir.

The takbeer is as follows:

Allaah akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaah il-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god but Allaah; Allaah is Most Great and to Allaah be praise).

And there are other versions.

This takbeer has become a forsaken Sunnah nowadays, especially at the beginning of these ten days. You can hardly hear it except from a few. It should be recited out loud, so as to revive the Sunnah and remind the heedless. It was proven that Ibn 繕mar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with them both) used to go out to the marketplace during the first ten days of Dhu値-Hijjah, reciting the takbeer our loud, and the people would recite takbeer when they heard them, i.e., the people would remember the talkbeer and each one would recite it by himself; it does not mean that they recited in unison that is not prescribed in sharee誕h.

Reviving Sunnahs that have been forgotten brings a great deal of reward, as is indicated by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): 展hoever revives one of my Sunnahs that has died out after I am gone, will have a reward like that of everyone who does it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 7/443; this hadeeth is hasan because of corroborating reports.

3 Doing Hajj and 繕mrah

One of the greatest deeds that can be done during these ten days is Hajj to the sacred House of Allaah. Whoever Allaah helps to go on Hajj to His House and do the rituals in the required manner will in sha Allaah be included in the words of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): 鄭n accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise.

4 Udhiyah (sacrifice)

One of the righteous deeds that bring a person closer to Allaah in these ten days is to slaughter the sacrifice and to look for a good, fat animal and to spend money on it for the sake of Allaah.

Let us hasten to make the most of these great days, before the negligent regrets what he did, and before he asks to go back and receives no response!

Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about the observance of Saum (fasting) on the day of 'Arafah. He said, "It is an expiation for the sins of the preceding year and the current year."

Laws Of Takbeer-E-Tashreeq

The words of Takbeer-e-Tashreeq:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,
La illaha ilallaah, Wallahu Akbar,
Allaahu Akbar wa Lillaahil Hamd.

Laws pertaining to Takbeer-e-Tashreeq
Taken from the research of Moulana Margubur Rahman Lajpori
1) The day of Arafat (9th Zil Hajj, the Day of Wuqoof of Arafat), the Day of Nahr (sacrifice) 10th Zil Hajj, and Day of Tashreeq (i.e. 3 Days, 11, 12 and 13th Zil Hajj).

In these 5 days after every Fardh Salaat Takbeer will be said. It is called 典akbeeraat Tashreeq.

2) Till the Asr of the 13th after 23 Salaats to say Takbeer is Wajib (compulsory). This is the Mazhab of Sahibaain (Imaam Muhammad and Imaam Yusuf). Also reported from Hadhrat Umar (R.A.) and Hadhrat Ali (R.A.).

3) Due to difference in the sighting of the moon, adhere to the sighting of your town and country.
(Marghoob ul Fatawa, Vol. 3 Page 143)

The method is to read audibly once the following:
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar,
La illaha ilallaah, Wallahu Akbar,
Allaahu Akbar wa Lillaahil Hamd.

To do so is Wajib.

4) To say this Takbeer after every Fardh Eiin (like Fajr etc.) is Wajib on condition that the Salaat is read in congregation and in a town/city. This Takbeer is not Wajib upon the females or Musafir.

5) In the Days of Tashreeq the Takbeer will be read audibly after the Jumuah Salaat also.
(Kitaab Al Nawazil, Vol. 14 Page 596)

6) If a woman or Musafir performs Salaat behind one upon whom this Takbeer is Wajib, then they will also read the Takbeer.
This is the Mazhab of Imaam Abu Hanifa (A.R.).

7) According to Sahibaain there is no pre-condition. It is Wajib on the females, Musafir, one performing Salaat alone and also in the village. The author of 羨l Bahr Al Raiq (Zainuddin Ibnu Nujaim al-Hanafi) has recorded this from Sirajul Wahhaj.

The Fatawa (ruling) is on the view of Sahibaain. (Ulm ul Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 327)

8) It is Wajib for men to read the Takbeer audibly. (Al Bahr Al Raiq Ilm ul Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 327)

9) According to Hadhrat Imaam Abu Hanifa (A.R.) it is not necessary for 僧asbooq (latecomer in Salaat) to read the Takbeer audibly and to read it softly is permissible (no problem).
10) Females will read this Takbeer in-audibly.
(Durr-e-Mukhtaar Ilm Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 327)
Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Dur al-Mukhtar

11) It is necessary to read this Takbeer with a slightly raised voice.
Many are neglectful concerning this, they do not read at all, or read it softly; it is necessary to correct this.
(Jawahirul Fiqh Page 446)

12) This Takbeer should be said immediately after the Salaat, if someone does such an action intentionally, which breaks the Salaat, like laughing loudly, softy or speaks intentionally or un-intentionally or goes out of the Masjid, then after these actions Takbeer should not be recited.
(Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Dur al-Mukhtaar)
(Durr-e-Muhtaar with Shaami, Chapter on both Eids, Ilm Fiqh Vol. 2, Page 327)

13) Takbeer should be read immediately after the Salaat, if there is a big gap the time to read it will lapse, and if whilst making Duaa one remembers, then one may read it, the Wajib will have been done. (Kitaabul Nawfil Vol. 14, Page 598)

14) In Muzdhalifa one performs Maghrib and Esha at the time of Esha, combining both. After the performance of the 3 Maghrib Fardh, one should immediately read the Takbeer followed by the 銑abaik. Then after which the Esha is read (jointly), the Takbeer should immediately be recited followed by the 奏albia.

15) If a person痴 Wudhu breaks immediately after Salaat, then it is better to read the Takbeer forthwith in that condition. One should not go to make Wudhu, and if one made Wudhu then read the Takbeer, it will be permissible.
(Al Bahr Al Raiq Ilm ul Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 337)

16) For the follower to read the Takbeer before the Imaam is permissible. But it is Mustahab to wait for the Imaam to commence. (Ummdatul Fiqh Vol. 2, Page 468)

17) If the Imaam forgot to say it. They should wait for the Imaam to read then read it.
(Radd al-Mukhtar ala al-Dur al-Mukhtaar; Al Bahr Al Raiq; Ilm ul Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 328)

18) It is Wajib to recite the Takbeer after the Salaat of Eid-ul-Adhaa (ibid)

19) To say (18) audibly.
(Fatawa Mahmoodiya Bahr Page 163 Chapter of Both Eids)

20) When the Imaam mentions the Takbeeraat in the Khutbah then the listeners present there should say it in their heart not with their tongue.
(Umdat-ul-Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 463)

21) In the sermon of the Eid ul Adhaa the Imaam should teach about the laws of slaughtering Qurbaani and Takbeeraat Tashreek.
It is appropriate to inform the Muslims on the Jumuah before Arafaat the laws about Qurbaani and Takbeeraat Tashreeq.

Takbeer Tashreeq starts after the Fajr of Day of Arafaat.
(ibid)

Hadhrat Moulana Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (A.R.) writes, 的t is good by way of sermon to encourage/remind of the laws of both Eids in the Jumuah before the Eids.
(Works of Rashidiya with Fatawa-e-Rashidiya Page 351)

22) One should recite Takbeer whilst on the way to Eid-ul-Adha in a raised voice and on arrival to the Eid Gah then one should stop its recitation. As per one narration to stop when the Salaat starts. (Umdat-ul-Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 460)

23) To recite the Takbeer in-audibly whilst going for the Eid-ul-Fitr Salaat is preferred.

24) It is permissible to read the Takbeer in a raised voice on the Day of Eid-ul-Adhaa in the Eid Gah.
(Durr-e-Mukhtaar Vol. 3 Page 60)
(Margubul Fatawa Vol. 13 Page 145)

25) On returning from the Eid Gah one should not read the Takbeer.

26) There is no Qadha for missing the Takbeeraat Tashreeq. Making Taubah will compensate.
(Fatawa Darul Uloom Deoband Vol. 4 Page 152)

27) If any Salaat was made Qadha in the Days of Takbeer Tashreeq, and the Qadha was made in Jamaat, then say the Takbeer.

If besides these days Qadha Salaat is read or if any Salaat became Qadha in the Days of Takbeer Tashreeq and its Qadha was make in any day or the past years Qadha Salaat of the Days of Takbeer Tashreeq is read then in these cases/situations no Takbeer is read. (Umdat-ul-Fiqh Vol. 2 Page 467)

Additional Information
28) To read the Takbeer Tashreeq once in Wajib but best to read it 3 times.

29) Some say that to read Takbeer Tashreeq 2 times is against the Sunnat.

30) Do not regard it as Sunnat to exceed the Wajib number.

To make intention of making Zikr will be Mustahab and there will be a problem in it.
